TSS needed a dashboard. Operational data was spread across several spreadsheets maintained by different people, and producing a single view of the business took a manual reconciliation every week.
The reporting delay was the visible symptom. The real cost was that decisions were being made on numbers that were several days old and quietly contradicted each other, and nobody could tell which file was authoritative. This is the point at which a spreadsheet has stopped being a tool and started being a liability.
